I was lucky to find this plover feeding along the wet sandbar as the sun began to rise behind. The light was incredible, so I decided to place the plover against the light to capture that silhouette. The flying droplets were a bonus.   ···  
I found a flock of sandpipers on the beach during their early spring migration. They were busing feeding along the water's edge and would choose to fly out once in a while. Their flight, so synchronized, almost looked like a beautiful symphony in the sky.   ···  
Piping plovers return to their breeding grounds by mid-March and begin setting up the nesting territories and finding a mate. 
I found this plover in the beautiful early morning sunlight. The plover was busy preening and looked straight at me in between.   ···  
I woke up at 3 AM and drove for 90 minutes to get to my favorite beach used by the piping plovers and the least terns to raise their young. I captured this beautiful least tern against the golden light as it hovered in the sky for a moment.   ···  
In Massachusetts, Least terns start to arrive by early May. By mid-May, shores are buzzing with Least terns flying around, finding their mate, and selecting nesting sites. As part of the courtship, the male brings in a fish as a gift for the female.   ···
